SCN Nursing Programs Overview
SCN offers two nursing programs: the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and the RN to Bachelor
of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN), both aligned with industry standards from the Board of Nursing,
American Nurses Association, National League of Nursing, and American Association of Colleges of
Nursing. These programs ensure students receive top-quality education that prepares them for
successful nursing careers.
Distinctive Approach to Nursing Education
SCN’s curriculum is based on the Metaparadigm framework, a holistic approach that integrates theory
to support open, goal-directed care. This framework emphasizes human flourishing, clinical judgment,
professional identity, and inquiry, preparing students to be compassionate, reflective nurses equipped
to address diverse health needs.
Competency-Based Education (CBE) for Practical Readiness
SCN uses a Concept and Competency-Based Education (CBE) model that prioritizes hands-on,
outcome-driven learning. Students focus on essential nursing competencies, professional identity, and
topics such as equity, informatics, and lifelong learning. This ensures SCN graduates are prepared to
meet modern nursing challenges and deliver high-quality patient care.
Program Structure and Progression
The ASN program covers foundational nursing skills through Levels 1 and 2, preparing students for
the NCLEX exam. The RN to BSN program’s Levels 3 and 4 focus on leadership, advanced practice,
and evidence-based care. This progressive structure supports students as they build expertise,
preparing them for roles as competent, compassionate nurses and leaders.
ASN PROGRAM
SCN’s ASN program is a hybrid, pre-licensure nursing program structured to meet Florida Board of Nursing requirements and align with national industry standards. Designed for aspiring nurses, the ASN program combines online coursework for general education and nursing theory with on-campus sessions for hands-on learning, simulation labs, and clinical practice. Upon graduation, students qualify to take the NCLEX-RN exam in their chosen state and are encouraged to continue their education with SCN’s RN to BSN program.
Curriculum Essentials
The ASN curriculum covers 24 months and 83 credits, which can be transferred toward the 120-credit RN to BSN program. The curriculum focuses on core nursing competencies such as nursing science, critical thinking, leadership, clinical procedures, communication, and relationship-building. Students learn to apply evidence-based care in diverse healthcare settings, with a focus on quality, safety, legal and ethical practice, cultural competence, and patient education. By blending theoretical knowledge with real-world skills, the ASN program prepares students to manage patient care across the lifespan and in increasingly complex healthcare situations.
Three-Phase Learning Approach
The program is organized into three progressive phases that ensure students build their knowledge and skills in a structured way:
● Comprehension: This foundational phase introduces students to the basics of nursing through virtual and lab-based learning, covering essential concepts like care planning, patient
assessment, and safety. Students also complete general education courses to enhance skills in
patient-centered care, teamwork, and leadership.
● Integration: In this phase, students apply clinical judgment through hands-on practice in
medical, surgical, and maternal-child health settings. Learning occurs in both simulated and
real-life clinical environments, helping students build confidence in managing patient care
and honing their nursing processes.
● Transition: The final phase prepares students to enter the workforce as registered nurses,
focusing on advanced skills in health concepts, pharmacology, ethics, leadership, and
professional development. This phase builds the confidence needed for graduates to take the
NCLEX-RN exam and step into their roles as competent nursing professionals.

RN TO BSN PROGRAM
As the demand for baccalaureate-prepared nurses grows, SCN’s RN to BSN program provides an accessible, fully online pathway for diploma and associate-prepared RNs to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This program is designed for RNs who seek career advancement while balancing family and professional responsibilities.

Admissions and Transfer Credits
Applicants must have an RN license and a nursing diploma or associate degree. Transfer credits may be accepted upon approval, and students must complete at least 30 credits at SCN.
Program Requirements
The program includes general education and core nursing credits, structured in four sequential levels (100-400). Course requirements:
● General Education: 11 credits in language arts, 6 credits in math (including statistics), 18 in
physical sciences, 17 in humanities, and 5 in psychology.
● Core Nursing: 63 credits covering leadership, ethical practice, and evidence-based care.
