Accreditation Journey

Accreditation Journey

Starlen College of Nursing (SCN) is a nurse-centered, private postsecondary institution in Lauderhill, Florida. The College was established with a singular purpose: to inspire, prepare, and challenge individuals to become exceptional nurses grounded in unwavering values and equipped with the skills to enrich human potential.

Alongside this purpose, Starlen College thrives as a learning community committed to excellence. For this reason, achieving full accreditation is an institution-wide journey that began in October 2024. Currently, Starlen College holds candidacy accreditation from the Middle States Commission for Higher Education (MSCHE) and the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) .

Through this learning community’s constructive, collaborative processes, the institution adopts priorities aligned with the College’s mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan. Accordingly, the following priorities will guide the Self-Study: (1) cultivate transformational student access and success; (2) build a culture of institutional effectiveness and advancement; (3) promote growth and sustainability; and (4) establish a global health and social presence.

With student success as the core purpose of full accreditation, these priorities guide decisions and frame approaches that pinpoint and measure outcomes. They are expected to spark institution-wide discussions, foster relationships, build consensus, capture evidence, and promote inclusivity.

INSTITUTIONAL PRIORITY DESCRIPTION

Cultivate Transformational Student

Access and Success The plan is to establish an ongoing, diverse student body. The plan is to increase and retain the number of new students, especially adults with prior work experience in health care or human services and underserved communities. Strengthen support services for students, particularly with working and family responsibilities, and academic or ESL challenges, such as remediation-style resources, counseling/training, and mental health support.

Build A Culture of Institutional

Effectiveness and Advancement. Plan is to innovate methods, policies, and procedures evidenced by data from interconnected domains for quality improvement. The plan is to ensure students are challenged by intellectually rigorous, motivational, and innovative teaching and learning techniques both inside and outside the classroom, leading to high academic standards through a culture focused on assessing student learning outcomes and on the continuous professional development of faculty.

Promote Growth and Sustainability The plan is to manage financial resources to support day-to-day operations and growth plans. The plan is to identify, explore, and capture opportunities and relationships to strengthen and diversify revenue, continue supporting and expanding educational programs, and ensure financial stability.

Establish Global Health and Social

Presence The plan is to establish learning and support relationships reflective of issues relevant to the needs of diverse communities. The plan is to participate in academic, community, and professional events and services without geographic or cultural borders to promote nursing expertise in improving health and social outcomes.

Starlen College is committed to conducting a Self-Study that is honest, transparent, collaborative, and constructive. The process will demonstrate compliance with accreditation standards and chart a clear path for the College’s continued growth and improvement. Specifically, SCN aims to achieve predetermined outcomes and to reflect its unwavering commitment to student success.
